Designed in 1955 by renowned architect André Svetchine, Casa del Sol is the work of one of the French Riviera's most celebrated twentieth-century architects. Born in Saint Petersburg and educated in Nice, Svetchine developed a distinctive architectural language that blended Provençal tradition with refined classical proportions and an extraordinary sensitivity to the Mediterranean landscape.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Svetchine was entrusted with commissions for many of the Riviera's most distinguished patrons. At the same time Casa del Sol was being built, he was restoring Christian Dior's beloved Château de La Colle Noire. The sculpted plaster medallion above Casa del Sol's fireplace echoes the Rose des Vents (compass rose) motif that Svetchine incorporated into Dior's residence—a symbol that served as the fashion designer's cherished good-luck talisman and, decades later, inspired Dior's iconic Rose des Vents fine jewelry collection. His work also included residences for artist Marc Chagall, couturier Edward Molyneux, brewer Alfred Heineken, and the Maeght family. Beyond his celebrated private residences, Svetchine designed the Musée National Fernand Léger in nearby Biot and restored the legendary La Colombe d'Or in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.

Known for his meticulous restoration of historic villas, Svetchine believed that architecture should respect both history and place. He favored noble, traditional materials—including local stone, antique terracotta, handcrafted plaster, reclaimed timber, handcrafted wood doors, and wrought iron—allowing each home to harmonize naturally with its surroundings. His architecture is distinguished by exceptional craftsmanship, sculptural plasterwork, and a seamless relationship between house, garden, and landscape—all of which can be experienced throughout Casa del Sol.

Casa del Sol remains a rare and beautifully preserved example of this architectural legacy, thoughtfully reimagined for contemporary living by a published interior designer while honoring the vision of its original architect. Respectful updates preserve the home's architectural integrity, allowing guests to experience the elegance, craftsmanship, and romance that define the very best of Riviera architecture.
